Random thoughts going into the weekend

It's Friday, and it's 6pm -- time for the weekend. It's been an odd week for me -- today, I got the odd sense that lately, I am underappreciated and yet overpaid. It's a strange combination, I admit. I have been doing a fair amount of work that is relatively mindless drudgery. That isn't to say that I mind doing it (okay, maybe I mind a little bit), but more that I am getting paid to take care of slightly bigger problems. Example: You've got an oven and a toaster. Now, the oven can do an excellent job making toast, but it makes more sense to use the toaster. It's more cost effective. Okay, that's a horrible analogy. Perhaps the only real parallel is that both things (the oven and me) are full of hot air. I'm whining a bit. Poor little rich girl. I mean boy. I mean man - MAN. Yeah. Grunt. Scratch. How 'bout them Giants? That Barry Bonds sure can smack that ball, eh?

Anyway. It's Friday. It's the weekend. Time to get it on. What exactly it is, I don't know. I suppose it depends on what your definition of is, is. With that. I'm out.

Flu Shot

I got a flu shot today. I asked the woman who was administering the shot if she had any lollipops for me.
She didn't.
For some reason, I felt compelled to watch the needle go into my arm. I was a little concerned because there were a couple of air bubbles in the syringe and I didn't recall the woman doing the little tap tap thing to get all of the bubbles out. I'm still alive though. For now.

Rabbit Blog

One of my friends introduced me to a new blog. It's called rabbit blog, and it is written by Heather Havrilesky, who used to have a column on the now defunct Suck.com. Rabbit blog appears to be a romantic advice column. Heather is an entertaining writer, and mixes in equal portions of humor, sarcasm/cynicism and genuine advice. I've added it to my stable of blog thoroughbreds.

Change of Plans

So I didn't end up seeing Punch Drunk Love this weekend, so that'll have to wait for a while. Instead, we ended up seeing Bowling for Columbine, a satirical documentary by Michael Moore, of Roger & Me fame. Bowling for Columbine combines is a somewhat twisted foray into the world of gun violence in America. Moore combines archival footage with an array of "guerilla" interviews to try to make sense of the senseless violence that plagues the United States. Quite over the top, it comes at you with graphic scenes and sounds of violence the from recent and more distant past -- Gripping stuff.
