THE ODD LOTS BIN

Last night, I headed off to Lucky's with some friends. I haven't often hit the bar scene on Valentine's night before and this experience was interesting to say the least. The motley crowd at Lucky's, always a melange of peoples and personalities, on this night bore the faint air of loneliness and desperation. I was accosted more than once by an aggressive little trollop who, intent on getting me to dance, cinched her raven-like talons around my belt buckle. Normally, I'm flattered (or shocked, given its infrequency) when a woman makes the first move, but in this case, I feared for my safety.

COLD-HEARTED BITCH

A while back, I linked one of the songs I've written about my friends. In honor of Valentine's day, I've posted another song that I wrote about a year ago. It's a funny little number about a girl I've never actually met. Truthfully, it's not really about the specific girl; it's more generally about yearning and the complexity of human relationships. It seemed appropriate as a shout-out to the those out there who have been painfully poked by a shaft from Cupid's quiver. Anyway, the song is called Cold-Hearted Bitch. It's meant to be funny and I hope you like it.

The song is posted on geocities, which has stringent bandwidth restrictions, so please be patient.

MOLDING THE MINDS OF TOMORROW'S GREAT, UH, CONSULTANTS

Tomorrow, I'm running a training session for consultants at my firm. It's slated as a 3-hour session (though hopefully shorter than that) on competitive strategy and economics. An audience of a dozen of the brightest-eyed and bushiest-tailed analysts will be captivated by my insights and observations. I'm greasing the gears of capitalism, folks. I'd better get some apples on my desk or there'll be hell to pay.

DAYDREAM BELIEVER

Ever have one of those dreams where you "hook up" with someone you know but don't know and then feel a little awkward when you see them in normal, everyday interaction? The other night, I dreamt that I dallied with an acquaintance of mine. When I spoke to her today, I almost thought she was going to start talking dirty to me (She didn't).

BUSY AS A BEE

Pound cake and rasberry danishes may be good for a snack during morning meetings but they don't make a very good lunch. So much for that resolution about eating better.

MY WEEKEND THUS FAR: A LIST OF POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES

All in all, I've had a pretty good weekend, though the end is looking to be less exciting than the beginning and middle. As with many things in life, it's been a balance of good and bad, positive and negative. Here's a brief summary of how things have been shaping up thus far.

Things about my weekend thus far that go in the "fun" column:
  • Debating (arguing, really) about politics and other matters

  • Barbeque, beer, cigars, scotch and fire

  • Hearing about the habits of certain friends
  • Calling those friends deviants because of those habits, for my own amusement

  • Kicking everyone's ass at pool

  • Pushing a frozen, beat-up Mercedes up a slippery slope and falling down while doing so

Things about my weekend thus far that go in the "lame" column:
  • Finding out, at 10pm on Friday, that I have numerous client requests for Monday

  • Being at work right now
