CHARISMA

Bill Clinton was in my office today. Okay, not my office, but he was at my office building in downtown Boston. The guy is like a rock star. Throngs of excited citizens waited for hours to catch a glimpse. Teens and baby boomers alike clamored to get a smile and a handshake from him. I watched him pass by from a short distance, content to observe the circus with detached amusement. Regardless of what you think about his policies or his personal life, Bill Clinton is still exciting to watch.

GOURMET DINING

After work yesterday, I had a couple of beers with a colleague. I wasn't seriously inebriated by any means, though when I returned home, I realized that I was suddenly very hungry. I fixed myself something to eat, and the new light of morning has me scratching my head. Here's what I ate:
  • One Salad with bleu cheese dressing and grilled chicken
  • One serving of kim chee (Korean pickled cabbage)
  • Roughly one dozen crackers with peanut butter
  • One omelette, with sour cream and barbeque sauce
  • One glass of water
Eclectic, no? But you know what? It all tasted really good. Have you heard of fusion restaurants? I think this was a bit of con-fusion.

ALIENATED

No offense to Miss Dominican Republic, but the title "Miss Universe" is a bit presumptuous. Movies like Species, My Stepmother is an Alien and the Star Trek series suggest to me that there are some hot extraterrestrial women out there.

From now on, until they give full representation in the Miss "Universe" pageant, I'm boycotting the telecast. Except for the swimsuit competition.

THE FCC WON'T LET ME BE...

Have you read up on the FCC media ruling at all? The FCC has voted to relax many of the restrictions surrounding media ownership. Many consumer advocates fear that this decision will lead to homogeneity in reporting and the stifling of upstart broadcast stations.

Hey, if networks decide to consolidate, they should merge their shows as well. Imagine the possibilities!

1) A bevy of desperate, yet bodacious single women eat insects and tripe and crawl among roaches to compete for the affections of one fabulously wealthy man, when Fear Factor meets The Bachelor, in "The Bachelor Factor!"

2) He's gay. She's Greek. Worlds and cultures collide when Will & Grace meets My Big Fat Greek Life, in "My Big Fat Gay Life!"

3) A group of convicts compete for their freedom - by belting out motown hits - when American Idol meets America's Most Wanted, in "America's Most Wanted Idol!"

I smell a hit. Well, I smell something.

MY GENERATION(S)

My weekend was an exercise in demographic transmogrification:

On Friday night, I partied like I was back in college. I ill-advisedly guzzled Red Bull & Vodka. My compatriots nearly convinced me to perform strip tease for a set of Mardi Gras beads. I smoked cigarettes (ugh).

On Saturday, I awoke as a sixty-year-old. I was sore. My joints were creaky. I played golf. That night, I enjoyed a stately dinner with friends and discussed politics. I played cards and sipped good scotch.

On Sunday, I loafed like an idle teenager. I was apathetic. I watched Johnny Knoxville staple seven scraps of paper reading, J-A-C-K-A-S-S to someone's bare butt on MTV.

On Sunday night, I slept like a baby.
