Maybe you've heard of this new buzzword. I just read this article defining the metrosexual as "as a straight, sensitive, well-educated, urban dweller who is in touch with his feminine side." The term reflects a gradual blurring of gender lines in American culture and the greater willingness of men in America to indulge themselves.
Here at inspirationstrikes, we welcome creative additions to the American cultural lexicon. In fact, this new definition has prompted us to develop a few new buzzwords of our own. Let's see if they stick:
RETROSEXUAL: a rebellious -- yet sensitive -- alternative male who draws inspiration from the 70's (e.g. Lenny Kravitz)
GHETTOSEXUAL: a hip, urban male who appreciates the bling-bling thing (e.g. P. Diddy)
SPAGHETTOSEXUAL: someone who likes a lot of pasta (e.g. Chef Boyardee)
LITEROSEXUAL: a fairly well-read individual who isn't afraid to use a pun and thinks it's funny to insert things into the vernacular.

THE TRADING BLOCK
The Major League Baseball trading deadline has come and gone and my team, the Boston Red Sox, continued their wheeling and dealing, acquiring pitcher Jeff Suppan and reacquiring hurler Brandon Lyon.
This is among my favorite parts of the baseball season. The summer is marching onward to the fall classic and the contenders are emerging from the pack of pretenders. Teams are bolstering their rosters for the stretch run in a flurry of trading activity.
All this action has me thinking that consulting would be even more fun if we had more of the bartering that occurs in baseball. Think of it:
"Matt's Co. completed a deal today with McKinsey prior to the 4pm trading deadline in which they received rainmaker John Doe for administrative assistants Scott Regan and Mary Gage along with a manager to be named later and cash considerations. Doe was 4 for 5 on proposals with a 3.74 ERA (Earned Revenue Average) for McKinsey this year."
Unfortunately, in this economy most teams are dumping salary, which isn't quite as exciting.

A BRUSH WITH FAME
As brushes with fame go, it's a small one. This is probably a small toothbrush with extra-soft bristles. I hope to work my way up to something more impressive, but I have delicate gums.
Yesterday, I posted a little quip about Middle Eastern food. Today, I checked my site meter and I noticed that I was receiving a number of referrals from Boston Common, a collection of different postings from Boston-area bloggers. Some sage editor at Boston-Online had deemed my post worthy of general interest! This is the closest I've come to receiving recognition for my writing since 9th grade, when I got an honorable mention for a submission to a state poetry competition.
Gosh, I don't know what to say. I honestly didn't think I'd make it this far... I'd like to thank the academy -- and my mom for always being there... Wait, wait, I promised myself I wouldn't cry... *sniff*... pull yourself together Matt... Okay, and I'd like to thank my 9th grade English teacher for being brave enough to wear ties that look like fish and piano keyboards and the like and my dog Max for being so gosh-darned cute, and for my friends for supporting me every step along the way. Wait -- wait... I'm forgetting someone. Last but not least, I'd like to thank the Falafel King. Without you, without your regal roll-ups, none of this could have ever been possible. You... you complete me. You had me at, "tabouli." Thank you Falafel King!
Thank you all! And good night!

BLOGGA GANOUSH
If you're going to call your lunch establishment "Falafel King," I really think your employees should get to wear crowns made of pita bread or something. Only then will I swear fealty to your hummus and tabouli.
On a related note, Baba Ganoush is really fun to say. Try it. Baba Ganoush. Baba Ganoush. Baba Ganoush.

AQUATICA
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to partake in watersports for the first time this summer. I was reminded of the following: Half the fun of waterskiing is the waterskiing itself; the other half is watching people do face-plants and ass-smacks at high speed.
